How To's GuideWe are here with our Disney drawing ideas series. Disney is full of unique characters, which can be an inspiration for a drawing. In this blog, we will discuss how to draw Oswald - The Lucky Rabbit.
Oswald, the lucky rabbit, is an animated character created by Ub Iwerks and Walt Disney for Universal Pictures in 1927. He has been featured in several animated short films between 1927 to 1938. Also, 27 animated Oswald shorts were produced at Walt Disney Studio. He was also one of the main characters in Epic Mickey.
Now you know who Oswald Rabbit is - it is time to discuss our Disney drawings ideas in part 1.
Follow the steps given below to draw Oswald the lucky rabbit -
Once you have practiced enough light strokes, here are the step to draw Oswald the rabbit head -
Draw a circle by placing four marks to determine the circle’s height and width. Then, connect the line and make a circle. You can also use a bottle cap to make a perfect circle. Make two curved intersecting lines inside the circle, which help make Oswald's rabbit face. Also, make two slightly curved lines for making a guide for ears. Ensure the lines should be close to the center of the oval.
Make an oval shape as a guide to make the body of the lucky rabbit. Use the four-dot method to draw this oval as well. This oval must be smaller than that of a head.
Draw an angled line on the top left side of the body to guide Oswald’s first arm. On the tip of the angled line, draw a small circle to guide the hand. On the other side, draw the same angled downward line and a small circle for the hand.
Draw two lines (does not have to be parallel). However, ensure the legs are shorter than the rest of the body. Now, draw two ovals for each line to draw feet. Ensure one oval is bigger than the other.
Now that the outline has been created, you must define the drawing using darker pencils.
Draw two oval shapes for the eyes above the horizontal line inside the circle made for the head. Shade them for a more eye effect. Use the vertical curved line to estimate the gap between the eyes and the nose. Under the left eye, draw a small horizontal oval for a nose. The size of the nose should be the same as the eyes.
Under the horizontal line, draw a couple of curved lines for the mouth. Keep the right side of the mouth higher than the left side. Draw a tongue using two overlapping curved lines.
Darken the shape of the first circle to create Oswald Lucky Rabbit Head. Under the mouth, draw a curved line for the bottom lip. Also, draw a few curved lines on the head - which should be similar to the letter V. Do the same for both sides.
Now draw Oswald's rabbit ears. Start with a light sketch and darken once you think the lines are okay. Ensure to widen the top of the ear to give it a more fluffy look while keeping the bottom of the ear narrow.
Use the angled line to draw the arms and hands of Oswald, the rabbit. Keep the arm close to the angled line to give it a thin arm shape. At the edge, draw several curves to make the fingers. Each finger must look like the letter U. Darken the top and bottom edges to make a sharp image of the finger. For the left hand, follow the same step for the arm, draw four small lines, and join them with curves on the top.
Draw two small half rectangles at the bottom of the stomach to create shorts for Oswald Rabbit. Draw a curved horizontal line inside the body to give the effect of the border of the shorts.
Draw the legs around the vertical lines below the shorts. Keep the legs narrower at the top. Add a few lines inside the foot on the right to accentuate the foot placement.
Now that your light sketch is ready go over it with a darker fine pen to give it a more defined look. Clean the borders, and if you want to make Oswald the lucky rabbit colorful - color accordingly. Though Oswald Rabbit has a black shirt and blue shorts, you can color them what you feel like.
